CLEAN, SWEEP AND SHARE

by: Marthe Whyte

To begin the year with meaningful action, WF-Ghana joined hands with associate members in Manchie for a community clean-up initiative. Plastic waste has become a growing concern in the area, and the women of the community invited us to partner with them in addressing this challenge.

On the morning of Friday, 6 February 2026, a team of seven core members of WF-Ghana arrived to support the activity. The programme opened with a warm welcome address from Mrs. Marthe Whyte, Chapter President, who encouraged collective responsibility and community spirit.

Taking the opportunity to extend further support, WF-Ghana also made donations to the women who had committed themselves to cleaning their neighbourhood. The items included bags of gently used clothing, snacks, and drinking water to refresh participants after the exercise. The donations were formally presented to the representative of the community women before the clean-up began.

For one hour, the women worked diligently together, clearing plastic waste from a large section of the community. Their teamwork reflected unity, determination, and pride in their environment. After the clean-up, participants returned refreshed and proceeded to share the donated clothing among themselves in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Each woman selected items suitable for herself or her family members, expressing heartfelt appreciation for the thoughtful gesture.

The activity concluded around midday, with smiles, gratitude, and a renewed sense of togetherness. Through this simple yet impactful initiative, WF-Ghana demonstrated that caring for the environment and supporting one another go hand in hand in building stronger, healthier communities.
