On Saturday, 28 June 2025, the Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Africa, in collaboration with the Hyojeong Academic Foundation (HJAF), held an inspiring online Hyojeong Character Education Teachers’ Training. With 60 Zoom connections and approximately 70 participants from across the continent and beyond, the event served as a significant step toward equipping educators with heart-centered tools to guide today’s youth.

The program was emceed by Ms. Precious Ngobar, WFWP Africa Youth Coordinator and opened with warm remarks from Mrs. Bernadette Fogue, WFWP Africa’s Education Director, who emphasized the importance of nurturing the conscience and heart in the learning process.

This was followed by Mr. Olaleye Isaiah Alao from the HJAF International Department for African Relations, who offered powerful opening remarks about the mission of Hyojeong Character Education in Africa. He highlighted the urgent need to instill core values and foster inner growth among youth, especially in a rapidly changing world.

The highlight of the event was a presentation by Mrs. Nancy Hewitt, International Coordinator of the Hyojeong Academic Foundation. She introduced the foundational concepts of Hyojeong Character Education, drawing from Unification Thought. Her presentation emphasized that: “HEART is the root of our conscience. We do things because our hearts, guided by our conscience, urge us to. So, we feel joy—like when we help someone out. That means that we have an ‘ETHICS OF JOY!’ She said, “ through the Hyojeong Character Education series, we can learn to cultivate and defend our conscience as our Inner Parent, and God. We hope that each person will improve themselves and feel better about who they are.”

Participants expressed appreciation with many requesting access to the Teacher’s Manual for further study and application. Mrs. Ledwaba, WFWP Africa Regional Secretary General, announced that there will be a training in the near future and participants will receive certificates. Dr. Susan Kone, WFWP Africa Regional President, delivered the closing remarks, thanking the presenters and participants and encouraging everyone to carry forward the Hyojeong spirit in their education and service work.

The training succeeded in strengthening a community of educators and leaders dedicated to cultivating heart-based values and guiding young people with love, conscience, and joy. As interest grows, WFWP Africa and HJAF look forward to expanding this impactful initiative across the region.
