HERSTORY Program Inspires Women Leaders Across Africa "Empowering Women Through Leadership, Service, and Peace"

The Women's Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Africa, through the Global Women's Peace Network (GWPN) Africa, successfully hosted its online HERSTORY Program on 27 June 2026, bringing together 30 participants from across Africa for an inspiring evening of leadership, empowerment, and shared experiences.

The HERSTORY Program is a platform dedicated to highlighting the inspiring journeys of women who are making meaningful contributions to peacebuilding, human rights, education, and community development. By sharing the stories of accomplished women leaders, the program seeks to encourage and empower young women and emerging leaders to become positive agents of change in their own communities.

The program opened with welcoming remarks by the Master of Ceremonies, followed by an introduction to the HERSTORY Program by Mrs. May Gaye, Coordinator of the Global Women's Peace Network Africa. She emphasized the importance of recognizing women's achievements and creating spaces where their stories can inspire future generations of peacebuilders.Rev. Cecelia Douffa-Doue then introduced the featured speaker, Mrs. Elizabeth Dato Gbah Johnson, Country Director of ActionAid Liberia.

Drawing from her personal and professional journey, Mrs. Johnson shared powerful insights into her leadership experience and her unwavering commitment to advancing women's rights, promoting social justice, and advocating against gender-based violence. She encouraged participants to lead with courage, integrity, and compassion, reminding them that meaningful change begins with individuals who are willing to serve their communities with dedication and purpose.

The presentation was followed by an engaging question-and-answer session, during which participants explored topics related to women's leadership, community development, and strategies for overcoming challenges while building inclusive and peaceful societies.

The program concluded with closing remarks by Mrs. Marthe Whyte, WFWP Africa Subregional Director for Subregion 2, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to the guest speaker and all participants. She encouraged everyone to continue supporting one another and to remain committed to advancing peace, justice, and women's empowerment throughout Africa.

Through initiatives such as the HERSTORY Program, WFWP Africa continues to provide a platform where inspiring women leaders can share their experiences, foster meaningful dialogue, and motivate the next generation of women to become leaders of positive and lasting change.
