On 25 April 2026, the Global Women’s Peace Network Africa (GWPN Africa) successfully hosted its HerStory Program via Zoom, bringing together 50 participants from across Africa and beyond for an inspiring evening of learning, empowerment, and meaningful dialogue.
The program was designed to celebrate and amplify the voices of women who are making significant contributions to peacebuilding, human rights advocacy, and community development. Participants gathered virtually at 5 PM GMT to hear from distinguished leaders and engage in discussions centered on women’s empowerment and social transformation.
The event opened with welcoming remarks by Dr. Susan Kone, who emphasized the importance of creating platforms where women’s stories, experiences, and achievements can be shared and celebrated. She encouraged participants to continue supporting initiatives that uplift women and strengthen families and communities across Africa.
The highlight of the program was the presentation by guest speaker Mrs. Ouedraogo Salamata, an Ambassador for Peace and dedicated Human Rights Advocate. Holding a Master’s degree in Human and Social Sciences, Mrs. Salamata serves in key humanitarian and human rights roles in Geneva and is also the President of the Yam Wekre Association in Burkina Faso, an organization committed to empowering women and local communities.
During her presentation, Mrs. Salamata shared powerful insights from her journey in humanitarian service and advocacy work. She spoke passionately about the importance of women’s leadership, education, unity, and grassroots empowerment in creating peaceful and sustainable societies. Her message inspired participants to become active contributors to positive change within their communities and nations.
The session also included an interactive Question and Answer segment, where participants engaged with the speaker on topics related to women’s empowerment, community challenges, leadership development, and human rights advocacy. The discussion created a meaningful exchange of ideas and encouraged greater collaboration among women leaders across the continent.
The program concluded with closing remarks by Mrs. Jacqueline Aber, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to the guest speaker, organizers, and participants for making the event successful. She highlighted the significance of the HerStory platform in bringing forward the untold stories of courageous women whose work continues to inspire hope and transformation.
The HerStory Program once again demonstrated the power of storytelling, dialogue, and solidarity in empowering women and promoting a culture of peace. GWPN Africa remains committed to creating platforms that encourage women’s leadership, strengthen communities, and inspire future generations across Africa.
